RDL Education Foundation, in partnership with the Rho Delta Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. hosts an annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration Breakfast on the second Saturday of January each year. The event is provides an opportunity for the community to celebrate the live and legacy of Dr. King. The event is free and open to the public and breakfast will be served.
The Celebration highlights the Charles T. Battle Jr. Scholarship recipients. The Charles T. Battle Scholarship is awarded each year by the Rho Delta Lambda Chapter to high school seniors that are continuing their education by enrolling in college. The scholarship honors the late Dr. Charles T. Battle – the first African-American admitted to the medical staff at Oconee Memorial Hospital. The chapter and the foundation presents The Drum Major Award during the celebration. The Drum Major Award recognizes the outstanding contributions of a local citizen for their manly deeds and love for all mankind.
